Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder: The Ultimate Extreme Solution for Ultra-Magnum Rifle Cartridges

For the long-range shooter who lives and breathes extreme accuracy in the largest rifle cases, Hodgdon H1000 smokeless gun powder  is the Ultimate choice. As a flagship member of Hodgdon’s renowned Extreme-Series line, H1000 is specifically engineered to be virtually Temperature Insensitive. This crucial feature ensures that the velocity and point-of-impact of your ultra-magnum rifle propellant loads remain consistent, regardless of the thermal conditions between your bench and the target.   With its very slow burn rate, Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder is perfectly suited for cartridges with large case capacities and heavy bullets, such as the .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Lapua Magnum, and various Weatherby Magnums. This long-cut extruded propellant delivers Exceptional Consistency and superior load density. When you rely on USReloadingPowder (USReloadingPowder for your H1000 supply, you are securing the technological advantage that translates directly to predictable impacts at the farthest distances.

Extreme Stability: Temperature Insensitive Technology (H3)

The key to Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder‘s dominance in long-range shooting is its Temperature Insensitive formulation. Magnum cartridges are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations; a load developed on a cool morning can generate dangerous pressures or excessive velocity shifts on a hot afternoon. H1000 is chemically coated to resist this thermal instability, guaranteeing that the meticulously developed velocity of your ultra-magnum rifle propellant remains tightly controlled. This thermal stability is Essential for ELR (Extreme Long Range) competitors and serious hunters who often shoot in unpredictable weather, ensuring that drop and windage calculations based on muzzle velocity remain Reliable.

Application Versatility: Optimized Calibers for H1000 (H2)

The very slow burn rate of Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder is engineered for the heaviest hunting and target projectiles in large-capacity cases:

• .300 Winchester Magnum: The definitive powder for achieving maximum velocities and Exceptional Consistency with 180-grain and heavier bullets.
• .338 Lapua Magnum & .30-378 Weatherby Mag: The preferred choice for these largest cases, providing the sustained pressure curve necessary for optimal performance and efficiency.
• 7mm Remington Magnum: Excels at maximizing speed with the heaviest bullets in this classic magnum cartridge.
• 6.5 PRC & 300 PRC: A strong performer in modern magnum cartridges, particularly with heavy-for-caliber match bullets.

Long-Cut Extruded: The Precision Standard (H3)

Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder is a long-cut extruded (stick) powder. While it requires slightly more care in metering compared to spherical powders, this geometry provides the most consistent, repeatable burn rate and superior ignition characteristics needed for Precision rifle shooting. In large magnum cases, the powder’s ability to maintain a consistent energy release through the barrel results in Exceptional Consistency and minimal velocity Standard Deviation (SD). When loaded correctly, the reliable, controlled burn of H1000 is the technical reason behind many world-class long-range records.

FAQs: Your Questions on Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder Answered (H2 – Contains FK)

Q: Is Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder suitable for .308 Winchester? A: No. H1000 is an Ultra-Magnum Rifle Propellant and is far too slow for the .308 case, which would result in poor ignition, incomplete combustion, and dangerously erratic pressures. Q: What is the main benefit of H1000 being Temperature Insensitive? A: The main benefit is the elimination of Temperature Insensitive related velocity shifts, ensuring the exact same muzzle velocity (and therefore trajectory) in both hot and cold environments—Essential for long-range Precision. Q: Is H1000 an extruded or spherical powder? A: Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Gun Powder is a long-cut extruded (stick) powder, which provides superior ballistic stability and burn consistency compared to many ball powders.11 Q: How does H1000 compare to Retumbo? A: H1000 is slightly faster than Retumbo. Both are Extreme-Series magnums, but H1000 is often preferred for cartridges slightly smaller than the massive Lapua and RUM cases where Retumbo excels.
